Files and the editor
Browse the project's files and edit them with a real code editor, on any device.
Every workspace can show its files next to the chat. Click + in the tab bar and choose Files: the file tree opens beside your chat.
The file tree
- Click a file to open it in a tab. Folders open and close with a click.
- Letters next to a file show its git status: M modified, A added, D deleted, R renamed, ? untracked, U conflict, * changes inside a folder.
- The header has Collapse all, Refresh and Files options, with New file…, New folder… and Reveal active file.
- Right-click a file or folder for New file…, New folder…, Rename…, Delete…, Copy path and Copy relative path. Deleting asks first, and moves the file to the computer's trash when it can.
To jump to a file by name, press Ctrl P (⌘ P on a Mac) for Go to file…. With nothing typed, it lists the files you opened last.
File paths in the chat are links too: tap one to open that file.
The editor
Files open in supermux's own code editor, the same on desktop, phone and browser:
- syntax highlighting for more than 40 languages,
- find, folding, and selecting every match at once,
- completions, errors and go-to-definition from language servers.
Save with Ctrl S (⌘ S) or the tab's Save button. If an agent changes a file you have open, the editor shows File changed on disk with a Reload button.
Pictures and videos open as previews. Other files that aren't text can be saved and opened on your device. Text files up to 1 MB open in the editor.
On a phone, an accessory bar above the keyboard adds editing keys.
Language servers
Language servers give the editor completions and error checking. They run on the computer that hosts your agents. Manage them in Settings ▸ Editor / LSP:
- TypeScript and JavaScript, Python (Pyright), Bash, YAML, JSON, CSS, HTML, Go (gopls), Rust (rust-analyzer) and Dart are built in. Each shows whether it's Ready, and one that's missing has an install button.
- Add language server adds any other one, with the command that starts it.
Code intelligence works in workspaces that have an agent. Without one, the editor says No agent in this workspace — code intelligence is off.
Editor settings
Settings ▸ Editor / LSP also has Wrap long lines, Font size, Side-by-side diffs and, for phones, the Accessory bar.
Getting files in and out
The file tree is for browsing and editing. To give an agent a file, attach it in the composer. Files an agent makes for you arrive in the chat.
