Privacy and telemetry

What stays on your computer, what leaves it, and the anonymous usage events you can turn off.

supermux runs on a computer you own. There's no supermux account, and supermux doesn't keep a copy of your work anywhere else.

What stays on your computer

  • Your code and the projects your agents work on.
  • Credentials: your agents' sign-ins and API keys stay where each agent keeps them.
  • History: every session's messages, in ~/.mux.
  • Memory: the Markdown files in ~/.mux.

What leaves it, and where it goes

The relay

The relay lets your devices reach your computer from anywhere. Traffic is encrypted on the way to the relay and on the way from it, but the relay server handles it unencrypted in between. If you don't want that, turn the relay off and use your own VPN or tunnel. See Reach your computer from anywhere.

Pairing

  • There are no accounts. Each device pairs once, with a QR code or a link.
  • One install belongs to one person. Teammates each run their own.
  • Every request needs a paired device. Settings ▸ Devices lists them, and Revoke cuts one off at once.
  • The very first device to connect to a fresh install is trusted automatically. After that, only a pairing link or code gets a device in.

Anonymous usage events

supermux on your computer sends anonymous usage events: which agents, models, apps and features you use. Never your prompts, code, file paths or names. The apps themselves don't send anything.

Each install has a random ID that isn't tied to your machine, your accounts or you.

  • See what's sent: Settings ▸ System ▸ View recent events shows the last 50 events, exactly as they were sent. TELEMETRY.md lists every field.
  • Turn it off: switch off Send anonymous usage events in Settings ▸ System. Events that haven't been sent yet are deleted.
  • On a server: set MUX_TELEMETRY=0 (or DO_NOT_TRACK=1) in ~/.mux/state/.env and restart supermux. That always wins over the switch in the app.
