Updates
Keep the apps and the computer that runs your agents up to date. Your sessions keep running.
Two things get updated: the app on each of your devices, and supermux on the computer that runs your agents. On a desktop that hosts, the app takes care of both.
Desktop app
When a new version is out, a card appears at the foot of the sidebar: Update available, with What's new and Install. Install downloads the new .dmg, .msi or .deb and opens it. On Windows the app installs it and closes itself so the files can be replaced.
To check yourself, choose File ▸ Check for Updates…, or open Check for updates in Settings.
A hosting desktop app brings its own copy of supermux, so the agents' side is updated with the app. Updating the app doesn't stop your sessions.
Phones and browsers
- iPhone and iPad: through the App Store.
- Android: the same Update available card. Install downloads the new APK and installs it over the old one. The first time, Android asks you to allow installing apps from supermux.
- Browser: the web app comes from your computer, so it's always the same version as supermux there.
A server
A server install checks for new versions every six hours, but never installs one by itself.
- From the app: Settings ▸ System shows the version and whether an update is available. Press Update broker.
- From the terminal: run
supermux update. It downloads the new version, checks it, swaps it in and restarts the service. - Going back:
supermux rollbackrestores the version you had before. - Docker: run
docker compose pull && docker compose up -din the folder with yourdocker-compose.yml.
Stable and alpha
There are two release channels: stable, and alpha for early builds. You're on whichever channel the build you installed came from: a stable install is never offered an alpha.
What happens to your sessions
Updating an app stops nothing: your agents run on the computer, not in the app.
When supermux itself restarts on that computer, your apps reconnect by themselves. A session that was mid-way through picks up again on your next message.
